University of Melbourne gets Green IT benefit from security
The University of Melbourne has reported an unexpected side benefit from deploying network security -- saving money.
That's because data collected by the Splunk network security offering, which observes external and internal network traffic, has been used by the University's Environmental department during 2012 to determine which PCs have been left on throughout the campus.

Television recycling scheme announced
Environment Minister Amy Adams has today announced a national scheme to encourage the recycling of unwanted televisions and raise investment in New Zealand’s electronic recycling capacity.

Hewlett Packard has been ranked as the most sustainable consumer electronics maker by the campaign group Greenpeace.
It displaced Nokia which had topped the group's "Guide to Greener Electronics" for the previous three years.
